Love & Will

“Love & Will” is the English version of the Norwegian collection “Kjærlighet & Vilje”, published in 2013. “Kjærlighet & Vilje” consists of a book containing 24 lyrics followed by notes, illustrations and a CD with all songs fully recorded. The musical genre is on the interstice of hymns, folksongs and jazz. The lyrics and their musical soundboards are about love. The love for a beloved one, for life, for God, and for oneself. The ability to love needs to be cultivated. This requires will, and from this comes the title.

These are newly written songs with their own musical voice. In terms of genre, they are at the interstice of ballads, folk songs and jazz. The lyrics consider love as expressed in interpersonal relations. They are also about feeling insignificant and in need of comfort – and what it is like to feel resilient, joyful and just slightly marvellous. But above all, they are about longing for the essence of love. The songs and their message resonate with the belief that there is a greater force of love out there – a love that goes beyond everything and everybody, which is Everything; a love of which we are born, and into which we enter when we pass on. Every day we are bombarded with sombre news flashes that come all too close. We want to give our listeners a sense of promise, of mercy and kindness, and of light and hope – buoyed by the belief that those things to which we devote attention will flourish. The ability to love needs to be cultivated. This requires will. For us, therefore, the prime necessities for the good life are love and will.
